A message from our head of school:

Welcome GMUN Delegates,
On behalf of Glenlyon Norfolk School, it is my great pleasure to welcome everyone who is taking part in the 2020 GNS Model United Nations conference. I am so pleased to see that our student organizers were able to move forward with this important event despite the current challenges presented by COVID-19.
Attending this conference will give students a first-hand experience of what it is like to participate in the development of policies and priorities at an international level. In addition to gaining an understanding of how the United Nations operates, GMUN delegates will gain a deeper understanding of governance and learn how to use diplomacy and collaboration to find consensus on critical issues. The strengthening of leadership, critical thinking and public speaking skills will be another benefit of participating in this conference.
I wish you all the best for an enjoyable and productive conference, and send thanks to all those who have contributed to its organization. Your commitment to ensuring this GNS tradition continues is greatly appreciated.
Wishing you a wonderful experience,
Chad Holtum Head of School
GMUN is a small conference that allows each delegate to use their voice and discover a passion for MUN. We believe the small size helps to create a conference that runs smoothly to ensure only good memories of your debate here. This year is the third iteration of GMUN and we are excited for another weekend of developing communication skills.

We strive to create an environmentally friendly conference, and so ask that you bring your own waterbottle, pen, and paper. As well, there will be limited paper copies of the delegate handbook.

Secretariat Staff

Secretary General - Gabby MacPherson

Gabby is a Grade 12 student at Glenlyon Norfolk School and is honoured to serve as Secretary General of GMUN 2020. Ever since getting dragged physically into her first Model United Nations meeting in Grade 8, she has spent her time attending as many conferences as humanly possible. When not catching up on sleep from a weekend of debate and diplomacy, Gabby can be found with friends, skiing, trying and failing to become an Instagram worthy baker, or getting coffee. In her last year she hopes to create a unique, memorable, and engrossing virtual experience for all delegates. Gabby is very excited to welcome everyone for what will be a weekend of stimulating debate and memories for all!

Director General - Ava Dryden

Ava Dryden is a grade 12 student at Glenlyon Norfolk School and is so excited to be acting as the GMUN 2020 Director-General! She has been apart of the amazing MUN community for the past four years and has loved all of the wonderful opportunities it has offered, along with the incredible people she has met. When Ava is not busy prepping GMUN, she enjoys playing many sports, reading, and spending time with friends. Ava is extremely excited about this year’s conference and everything its delegates will accomplish. She hopes everyone fully enjoys themselves by engaging in exciting debate on a plethora of topics!

USG Tech, Media & Marketing - Stefanie Chen

Stefanie is in grade 12 and has been involved in MUN for two years, including being a delegate herself and organizing the GMUN Cultural Fair. Her first experience with MUN through GMUN 2018 led her to collaborate with Cultural Club to organize GMUN 2019 Cultural Fair. She is really honored to have the opportunity to contribute as USG Tech, Media, and Marketing for GMUN 2020. When she is not in the booth as a Tech Team member for school assemblies and productions, she is often playing frisbee or surviving IB diploma. Stefanie’s hope for GMUN 2020 is that no technical difficulties will appear, and everyone involved will grow to be flexible and creative not only for adapting to a global pandemic but also for solving global issues.

Co-USG Committees - Riya Gandhi

Riya is a Grade 12 student at Glenlyon Norfolk School. After travelling to the United Nations in New York but failing to solve any global crises, she decided to attend a Model United Nations conference in Grade 9. She quickly fell in love with the energy, collaboration and spicy debate that MUN brings and has since participated in several conferences. Her passion for diplomacy and current events has grown tremendously, and she hopes to share her enthusiasm during GMUN 2020. In her little free time, she can be found growing bacteria in the science lab or being a preachy vegan enthusiast. Riya is beyond excited to be a part of this year’s conference and wishes the best of luck to each delegate.

Co-USG Committees - Anders Cairns Woodruff

Anders is a *shocker* Grade 12 student at Glenlyon Norfolk School who enjoys MUN, debate, and not doing homework. He’s participated in MUN since grade 7, and his MUN career peaked in grade 9, when he participated in his first crisis committee. Anders directed two committees in previous years, and is excited to be a member of the secretariat this year. In his free time, you can’t find him. He hopes all participants have a fantastic experience and looks forward to a fun conference!

USG Logistics & Finance - Shreya Gandhi
Currently in Grade 12 at Glenlyon Norfolk School, Shreya entered the world of MUN in Grade 9 as a shy delegate entertained by the politics and drama of a characteristic MUN committee. She has since participated in many conferences, each ending in countless unforgettable memories, and is thrilled to be concluding her journey as a member of the Secretariat this year. In her free time, she can be found taking BuzzFeed quizzes, . Shreya is eagerly anticipating GMUN 2020 and hopes it will be a remarkable and rewarding experience for all delegates.
